Abstract

The assessment of the population's perception of urban afforestation can be an important source of information to improve the benefits of the presence of plants and minimize the possible problems caused by them. The objective of the research was to study the perception of the population about afforestation in Capim Macio neighborhood, Natal / RN into six squares. 60 interviews were conducted from October 2014 to September 2015 and subsequently evaluated by content analysis. The results showed that most residents ranked the state of the afforestation of squares in the study as "regular". Stood out even, the shadow generated by the trees as the main advantage of urban forestry. The main needs identified by respondents were: plant more trees, raise awareness regarding the preservation of trees and their maintenance by the city hall. In addition, 60% of respondents said it was willing to contribute financially to the maintenance of squares
