Resumen
Natural gas, wind, and solar resources are responsible for a considerable portion of the generation of electric energy in Brazil. The generation of energy through intermittent resources causes the supply of energy to be insecure due to the irregularity of natural resources. The high penetration of wind and solar resources causes particular challenges for the Brazilian electrical system. The availability and versatility of using natural gas, combined with its clean-burning characteristics, make the fossil resource the ideal partner to counterbalance renewable energy generation. Conventional electricity generation has its advantages, however, it is not always capable of producing reliable and environmentally conscious production of energy. The hybrid system brings a new perspective for energy generation. The combination of natural gas, and wind or solar power in the same site optimizes production by complementing each other in the energy generation process. The state of Rio Grande do Norte is at the center of political and technical-economic discussions aimed at expanding the production of natural gas, additionally there is a high density of renewable projects in the state. Given this scenario, the viability of a hybrid system in the state of Rio Grande do Norte was analyzed. This work evaluates the results of hybrid systems in the national and international context and whether a hybrid system is suitable in Rio Grande Do Norte. The hybrid system proposed in this work brings together the advantages of the combined use of natural gas and solar resources in the generation of electricity, which will enhance the reliable delivery of energy, strengthening the electricity supply of the electrical system in Rio Grande do Norte.
