Resumen
Among the parameters used in the biomass carbonization process, the heating rate is one of
the most important changes in the gravimetric yield of the products obtained. In face of it, the
purpose of this study was to evaluate the influence of different heating velocities on the
gravimetric yields in charcoal, condensable fluids and non-condensable gases. The eucalyptus
(Eucalyptus urophylla x Eucalyptus grandis) and jurema preta (Mimosa tenuiflora (Wild.)
Poir.) woods were used, shaped as disks with variable diameters and dried. The carbonization
occurred in a muffle type electric oven for three distinct heating velocities: 0,7; 1,0 and
1,4 °C/min. The BioEstat software version 5.3 was employed to perform the normality test
and Shapiro Wilk, ans subsequently the averages were compared by Tukey's test to the 5%
significance level. The collected pyrollenous extract was analyzed by gas chromatography
coupled to the mass. The results showed that as the heating rate increased, charcoal yields
decreased and yields in condensable liquids increased. As well as the increase of the heating
rate increased the furans and pyran content and decreased the content of phenolic compounds
of the pyrolignous extract. With this, it is concluded that the choice of the heating rate should
be carried out according to the main interest of the production.
