Reconectando lugares e pessoas: proposta de reestruturação do sistema de espaços públicos da Cidade da Esperança.

Abstract

The open spaces system – public and private – are fundamental for the production processes in the urban environment and the reproduction of life in the cities. However, this thesis emphasize the study of open public spaces in such a way that it revalue consolidated urban areas, contributing for the improvement of the urban environment and occasioning a bigger involvement of the population with a qualified and diverse use of their everyday life space. Because of this, associated with a historical analysis of the establishment of public space in the neighborhood of Cidade da Esperança, located in the western region of the city of Natal / RN. Its main goal is propose an articulated system of open public spaces, present in the correspondent fraction to the initial core of the neighborhood’s formation, relating its functions together with the population’s demands and characteristics of its respective built environments, to restructure them from a macrozoning of structuring activities, as the insertion collective’s equipment regarding the social, spatial and environmental context of the place. For this, conceptual studies were made deepening the theoretical reference which underlines, among other reflections, the morphologic analysis of the open public spaces in the studying area, the mapping and discussion of levels and ways of appropriation of spaces by the users as well as the existent structuring activities. Furthermore , it shows a brief reflection about the mobility conditions of the axes that link the studied open spaces, seeking the qualification of the relationship between the morphologic characteristics of the spaces and their respective environment , with functional aspects, and the appropriation by the uses. This procedures reflect the effort of theoretical and empirical syntheses that will serve as a base to guide the definition of guidelines (general and specific) which will result in pointing actions to provide the full use of the space under study.
