dc.description.abstractDisorders caused by heavy rains are increasingly frequent in the city of Natal, especially in some critical neighborhoods known for the population, such as Neópolis. In this way, It seeks for alternatives in order to assuage the occurrence of those events in the city, especially if these alternatives have low cost and avoid discomforts in the neighborhood mobility at the time of its implementation. Among these alternatives, the use of green roofs in existing buildings of the neighborhood stands out as a form of retention and delay of the drainage of rainwater in the basins. Through the study of green roof modules, it is possible to estimate its capacity to retain about 65% of rainwater and apply it to the covered areas of Neópolis to evaluate its application. Considering this data and relating to the intense precipitation events in the city of Natal, it is possible to estimate the total volume of rainwater that would not be destined to the drainage networks and avoid major disturbances. The results of the evaluation show the green roof as a significant alternative to assuage the occurrence of flood events in Neópolis. In this way, by adhering to the appropriate public policies this implementation, the vegetation cover also makes easy of execution and benefits economy to the public sector that proposes to apply this alternative.
