The aim of this work is an analysis of homosociality in the novel Before Adam (1907) by the American writer Jack London, known, among other things, for his tough guy style. To this end, we first present a conceptualization of this expression of masculinity in North-American society and a quick discussion on the concept of homosociality, focusing on its main characteristics. Based on this concept, we analyze the relationship between the two main male characters in the novel mentioned above. This analysis reveals a type of homosociality between the two main characters that is characterized by great companionship and also by an underlying eroticism. Although it is not an in-depth aspect of our work, we have the opportunity to note that this is a pattern that is repeated in other novels by the American writer and reflects his own behavior, in his social life, towards his male friends
