Rainwater catchment ponds are designed to control flooding by cushioning the downstream peak flow. In addition, they can be incorporated into the environment forming recreational complexes. This is the case of the Manoel Felipe lagoon, in the city of Natal / RN, which is located in an urban recreational park, and makes use of rainwater for recreation of secondary contact. However, it is essential to verify if the water body is within the quality standards required by resolution 357/2005 of CONAMA. For this, it was framed in terms of use, being better defined in class 03 and laboratory analyzes of turbidity, thermotolerant coliforms, biochemical oxygen demand (BOD), dissolved oxygen and pH were performed. In addition, a complementary analysis was performed for the pathogenicity from the count of helminth eggs. These were absent. Among the five parameters analyzed, thermotolerant coliforms and BOD were not within the standards required by resolution 357/2005 of CONAMA. For the first, results of 9000 and 5400NPM / 100mL were obtained, well above 2500NPM / 100mL, and for the second, an average of 13.56mg / L, above the recommended maximum of 10mg / L. It was concluded, therefore, that the Manoel Felipe lagoon was not fit for the recreational activity which is proposed, according to the parameters of the aforementioned resolution.
