Resumen
University dropout is considered a multifaceted phenomenon that puts higher education at
risk and has been the subject of much discussion in academic circles leading many
researchers to engage in this subject. From this context, we questioned how this phenomenon
behaves, the permanence and the conclusion of the students of the courses of Bachelor of
Information Technology and Bachelor of Science and Technology, both in the
interdisciplinary modality, of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN). To
answer this questioning, a descriptive analysis was performed comparing the rates of evasion,
permanence and conclusion. For that, three indicators were used available in the
Methodology of Calculation of Indicators of Flow of Higher Education prepared by the
National Institute of Studies and Educational Research Anísio Teixeira / Ministry of
Education and Culture. Data were obtained through the School Census of Higher Education,
held annually, between the years of 2010 to 2018 for Bachelor of Science and Technology
and 2013 to 2018 for Bachelor of Information Technology, which were made available by
the UFRN Information Technology Superintendence. As a result of the research, rates of
around 50 to 60% of dropouts for the Bachelor of Science and Technology course were
identified and 70 to 75% for the Bachelor's degree in Information Technology. From the
results, mechanisms were created to follow the courses, serving as a basis for measuring the
efficiency of each one. Finally, it is believed that the Institutions of Higher Education should
be submitted to a quality control, which is a right of the society. From the results, a situational
diagnosis was made with the presentation of some indicators that could serve as the basis for
different analyzes. It is expected that, with this study, it will be possible to produce
knowledge that will support the decision-making of the managers and the well-being of the
students that will enter the University.
