Estudo de um sistema básico de tramway em Natal-RN

Abstract

In the last decades, Natal city, capital of the state of Rio Grande do Norte, had strong demographic growth. However, the development of the transport network, mainly public transport, did not follow this growth and, similar to other cities in the country, the car became a preference for daily trips. At the same time, in the last five years, the state started to have a surplus of electric energy. This monography presents a study toward a tramway system project in Natal city, Brazil. The study uses a real Montpellier tramway project as a framework for the current proposal. It is analyzed the main transport corridors in the city and after exploring alternatives it is proposed two trams lines. The tramway alignment and sections alternatives along way are studied, as well the operational and maintenance center site location. A preliminary cost analysis is conducted.
