Resumen
The phosphorus is an essential element for humanity, with emphasis on the use in agricultural fertilizers and in industries, used for manufacturing detergents. On the other hand, when the phosphorus reach superficial hydrous bodies, through domestic and industrial sewage or through leaching from agricultural areas, it can induce the eutrophication of this water body. A strategy to minimize the release of phosphorus on environment and simultaneously recover it as an usable resource is it recovery as struvite on wasted water treatment plants. The struvite, a phosphorus, ammonia and magnesium mineral, has a great utilization potential as a fertilizer or raw material for industries. This study aims to evaluate the influence of phosphorus initial concentration and the seeding utilization in the struvite precipitation in a fluidized bed reactor. The efficiency of phosphorus removal is around 78-80%, for high concentrations of phosphorus (100 mg/L). The recirculation of struvite already precipitated in the reactor (seeding) did not produce significant influence on the results.
