Resumen
Objective: To evaluate musculoskeletal complaints, functional independence and cognitive function in post-stroke individuals and healthy people. Methods: This was an observational, cross-sectional and quantitative research conducted in Santa Cruz-RN, Brazil. The sociodemographic assessment form, Mini Mental State Scale, the COPCORD Core Questionnaire and the Functional Independence Measure were used. Results: 26 individuals participated in the study and were divided into: healthy group (n = 13) and post-stroke group (n = 13). Most participants reported pain in the last 7 days, but not in the past. There was no difference between the groups regarding the intensity of musculoskeletal pain, either in the last 7 days or in the past. However, a significant difference was observed in MMSE values between groups (p = 0.008), as well as in motor FIM (p = 0.001), cognitive FIM (p = 0.001) and total FIM (p = 0.001) values. Conclusion: post-stroke individuals and healthy people of the same age presented similar pain intensity related to musculoskeletal complaints. However, post-stroke individuals showed a marked reduction in cognitive function and functional independence.
