Resumen
Primary dysmenorrhea (PD) is a condition that affects many women, causing severe abdominal pain and associated symptoms, directly interfering with quality of life. The objective of this study is to evaluate whether the treatment through Transcranial Direct Current Electrostimulation (tDCS) for PD will provide a change in the pain and quality of life of women affected by the condition. This is a pilot study of an uncontrolled clinical trial, with 16 women with PD. The intervention was performed in the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex area (DTCCCPDL), for five consecutive days, lasting 20 minutes and intensity of 2 mAh. Assessment was performed using the WHOQOL-bref quality of life questionnaire, numerical pain scale (NRS) and global perception of change scale (PGI-C). The analysis between evaluations one and three of the WHOQOL-bref questionnaire showed a significant result with P=0.017. The NRS scale showed a lower mean in the last month evaluated, characterizing a decrease in pain, and the PGI-C scale showed an increase of 7.1% of women who classified it as a positive change. There was an improvement in the quality of life and in the pain reported by women with PD, after an intervention performed with tDCS.
