O trabalho profissional dos assistentes sociais no âmbito de unidades de emergência: o caso UPA Sul – Dr. Leônidas Ferreira

Abstract

This final paper aims to critically analyze the performance of Social Workers in the context of health emergency units, specifically Social Work of the Urgent/Emergency and Intensive Care Unit of the Southern District of Natal/RN, emergency care unit (as known as Unidade de Pronto Atendimento - UPA) Dr. Leônidas Ferreira. This research is based on the dialectical critical method since it allows the apprehension of the totality, historicity and contradictions of the object studied. For methodological purposes, a bibliographic and documentary review was carried out, further fieldwork registers and reports experiences of the mandatory supervised practice I and II of the Social Work Course in the period 2019.1 and 2019.2, realized in UPA of the Southern District of Natal/RN. The results show that, even though there are contradictions regarding the development of socio-educational practices and social control in the intervention of Social Workers due to the particularities imposed in the correlation of forces of an Urgent/Emergency Care Units, it is essential to seek critical and dynamic strategies committed to the Political Ethical Project of the Profession.
