dc.description.abstractOn a global scale, Quaternary geodynamic processes have intensified in coastal regions, whether due to natural or anthropic causes. The intensification of erosive processes negatively affects the population, as accidents involving people can occur due to gravitational mass movements. The objectives of this study were to diagnose, map and monitor the occurrence of erosive processes (natural and anthropic) and gravitational mass movements on the edge of Ponta Negra Beach, Natal/RN, for, from the zoning of risk and danger areas, provide technical information capable of making the use of public resources with coastal management more efficient. In this way, it was possible to process and elaborate a cartographic document with the application of spatial analysis techniques in a GIS environment from the positioning and intensity of the geodynamic processes, which were classified and specialized as Non-existent, Very Weak, Weak, Medium, Strong and Very strong. In addition, it was possible to record the occurrence of advanced erosive processes and others with high potential risk for the population that frequents the region, forming a database with almost 2300 photos. Therefore, it was concluded that there is a need for works to mitigate coastal erosion in the region. Therefore, a study was carried out capable of assisting the competent authorities in three main aspects: in the preservation of the environment, in the prevention of accidents and in the adequate use of public financial resources.
