Resumen
This research aims at analyzing how the Pitaguary (CE) indigenous leaderships are constructed,
modeled and acted upon and, consequently, how they maintain their legitimacy both in a
local sphere and in a translocal scenario of ethnic mobilizations. In this way, I approach the
process of social and political organization Pitaguary, giving shape to internal factional conflicts.
From a procedural and historical perspective, taking into account the dynamics and
processes of territorialization of the aforementioned ethnic group, we can see how these subjects
become central mediating agents in the negotiation of demands and dialogue with the
State. The performance and recognition of these actors both in their communities and in terms
of the indigenous movement, in which they also participate, is based on their political involvement
in different fields of contention, among them: education, retakes, ethnic mobilization
political and even factional dynamics. In this way, the leaderships of the four Pitaguary villages
trigger distinct supports, influences, powers and prestige, including varied institutional
agents.
