Resumen
The development of new diesel engines for use in cargo transportation must meet the guidelines for efficiency, economy, and sustainability. In this context, the control of NOx emissions has become increasingly strict. In 2012, Brazil adopted the PROCONVE P7, based on the EURO V standard, further reducing exhaust gas emissions (CO, HC, CO2, NOx, etc.). The focus of this work is the study of NOx emission control technologies applied to heavy vehicle diesel engines. The main technologies for controlling NOx emissions related to the combustion process of the mixture of diesel and air admitted to the engine cylinder and the physical-chemical treatments of the exhaust gases. Also part of the research is the case study that addresses the maintenance and failure analysis of the post-combustion’s system a fleet of 52 vehicles that runs equipped with diesel engine OM 924 LA operating in cargo transport throughout the north and northeast of Brazil. In the study, a high frequency of problems was observed related to the SCR system's NOx sensor. To a lesser extent, it was also detected some problems related to oil contamination of the ARLA 32 and the crystallization of this product in the system piping were identify.
