Transfer matrix approach to metal surfaces vibrations

Resumen
Surface phonons propagating in arbitrary directions in the surface of FCC metals are studied via vibrational Green's functions obtained through the definition of transfer matrices. The dynamical matrix is described in the central force model. The method is applicable to any direction in the surface and is specially efficient for high symmetry directions. Ni (111) surface phonons are obtained with excellent agreement with previous experimental results.
