Resumen
This monograph has as its theme Reading as Practice in the 5th Year of Elementary School, having as research object the practice of reading in the 5th year of Elementary School and the following problematization: the reading activities and the readings performed by students of the 5th year of elementary school result in better school performance? The actions that led the research organized from the definition of the general objective that sought to point out the reading activities developed for students of the 5th year of Elementary School talking about their relationship with school performance and the following specific objectives which sought to characterize the types reading available to students in the 5th year of elementary school; inventory, classifying which reading materials and activities are used by teachers in the 5th year of elementary school classes and relate the reading activities to the students' learning process and school performance. In order to carry out the research and study of the topic, bibliographic research and documentary research were used, using the interview as a data collection technique with open and standardized questions and having the collected information analyzed qualitatively. As a theoretical foundation, works by Cunha (2016), Kleiman (2000), Koch (2009), Sim-Sim (2007), Tabile (2017), among others, were used. With the study it was possible to prove that reading is of great importance in the teaching and learning process of students in the 5th year of elementary school, because it is from this practice that students can acquire knowledge, understand what they read more easily. which contributes significantly to their learning thus enabling students to have a satisfactory school performance. In this way, the exploration on the theme contributed to understand that reading significantly influences the development of educational competences and skills of students in the 5th year of elementary school, who, being in the process of literacy, need to practice reading in order to have an effective understanding of the objects of knowledge, which will facilitate the learning process of these students when they have contact with more complex readings both in that year of teaching and in later levels of education.
