Resumen
Objective: to observe the presence of Premenstrual Symptoms (PMS) in premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD), frequent in the menstrual cycle before and after application of transcranial direct current (tDCS) stimulation in women with primary dysmenorrhea (PD). Methods: case series composed of 14 women with PD. All participants were evaluated in the first 24 hours of the menstrual cycle and reassessed in the following two periods. For symptom analysis, the premenstrual symptoms screening tool (PSST) was used and for satisfaction analysis, the Patient Global Impression of Change (PGI) was applied. The intervention was performed for 5 consecutive days in the left dorsal prefrontal cortex (DLPFC) region for 20 minutes. Descriptive statistics and the paired t-Student test were used. Results: 13 women were analyzed in the study. The mean age was 26 ± 3.64 years. Most of the volunteers were single, self-declared brown, with more than 10 years of study, nulliparous, with normal BMI and without using analgesic medication. There was an increase of 30.8% for "does not have PMDD". There was no statistical difference before and after tDCS for the level of satisfaction. Conclusion: tDCS in DLPFC seems to be a useful tool in improving PMS in PMDD in women with PD, although there is no statistical difference. Future research with a larger number of participants is necessary.
