Resumen
Affecting 500,000 people worldwide, bladder cancer comprises a range of lesions that affect the urothelium, ranging from small benign lesions to aggressive tumors that can metastasize and lead to death. Tobacco use stands out as the main risk factor for the development of bladder cancer and its compounds are capable of generating a series of DNA lesions that promote activation of DNA repair pathways to maintain the integrity of genetic material. Using databases, patients with bladder cancer were sectioned and 51 genes from 6 repair pathways and from the APOBEC family were defined to study the influence of smoking on their expression according to the molecular classification of Lund. Changes were observed in all repair pathways, the changes were specific according to the protein and its molecular group, the influence of smoking was also specific for each protein and dependent or not on smoking status.
