Resumen
This work has the goal of proposing mechanisms to be adopted by the Ethics Commission at the Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Norte aiming at minimizing unethical behaviors from committees evaluating candidates for filling professor positions since the elaboration of exams until the end of the evaluation process. Such mechanisms must establish a pragmatic understanding about the role of this commission as guardian and promoter of this university reputation as an ethical institution. The focus on the civil service exams is derived from the fact that they revealed high susceptibility to ethical deviation and that they are under direct interference of moral aspects of each of the committee members. This study is grounded on the current laws and regulations into effect as well as on the records of ethical infractions registered and kept by the university Ethics Commission from its beginning in 2008 until the end of the year 2014 as tools for checking which actions the Ethics Commission could employ in order to enhance the management over the impact of moral and ethical judgments along with their importance in granting the image as an ethical institution before the society. After this stage, we interviewed employees from the section responsible for coordinating the mentioned exams with the objective of understanding the current process and the guidelines given to all the committee members, what allowed us to establish a reference of which administrative apparatus have been employed currently in order to rule the all stages of the exam process as long as assure its transparency. Finally, this work contributes to plan actions which are expected to build up an academic environment where the ethics is widely pervasive as they take effect.
