Análise da influência dos ciclos políticos na condição financeira dos Municípios do Rio Grande do Norte entre os anos de 2014 e 2020

Abstract

The objective of this work was to analyze the effect of the political cycles on the Financial Condition of the municipalities of Rio Grande do Norte. In this sense, two hypotheses were formatted, the first that the municipalities have better financial condition in the election year and the second that municipalities that have candidates in their first mandate have better financial condition. In conducting the research, financial, electoral, and social data were collected from the 167 municipalities in RN. The analyzed period comprised the years between 2014 and 2020. Through statistical software, multiple regressions for panel data were applied. The results of the analysis indicated that the variables selected to represent the political cycles, specifically, electoral year and first term of a mayor, did not prove to be statistically significant for the explanation of the financial condition of the municipalities. This study contributed to the literature by exploring the relationship between both theories and bringing new findings to the defined sample context.
