Resumen
Studies have shown remarkable growth of infections caused by Gram-positive cocci. These represent an important class of bacteria that causes serious infections, which often become resistant to antimicrobials. Gram-positive cocci, represented by Staphylococcus sp, Streptococcus sp. and Enterococcus sp., are important pathogenic microorganisms that cause serious and potentially lethal infections, such as skin infections, pneumonia and meningitis, which have demonstrated resistance to antimicrobial drugs, including the last generation. This work aims to bring a bibliographic review on Gram-positive cocci Resistance from specialized scientific databases. As well as, conceptualize the main gram-positive bacteria of medical importance. The resistant strains and the main tests of identification of resistance in Gram-positive cocci recommended by international institutes and employed in Brazil were approached. Bacterial resistance to antimicrobials has been reported since the early years of commercialization of these drugs and are an important current concern. Therefore, efforts should be taken, since the consequences if this scenario does not change are catastrophic.
