Resumen
This study is bibliographical research about the method of artificial lift, progressing cavity pump (PCP). Wich demonstrates it’s news and technological trends, such as the innovative ES-PCP and hollow rod. This study is important because PCP is the most recent artificial lift method when compared to methods such as: gas lift, rod sucker pump and electrical submersible pump (ESP). The PCP technology has shown a large potential, capable to overcome it’s own limitations due to advancement technological prospects on development. The research undertaken consists of bibliographic research, describing the news of PCP method. Presenting the main advances of the last 14 years, among them, the development of hollow rods, application of polyurethane on the rotor, application of a hard composite material on the stator, metallic PCP, monitoring of the PCP at 500ºF applied to production of oil in hot wells by the influence of steam, improvements in reliability, development of an innovative ES-PCP system and insertable PCP applications with a new extended anchor. The use of the hollow rod, expanded the application of this method to deeper wells and higher flow rates. The use of polyurethane has improved the abrasion resistance and better mechanical properties to elastomers made of nitrile rubber. The metal pump can be used in high temperature applications and it has a successful chemical compatibility with the pumped fluids. The innovative ES-PCP system has a new configuration that uses the technology of a permanent magnet motor at the downhole and a torque converter, and pursue to unite the advantages of PCP and ESP, and because of absence of rod it can develop a greater reliability. The insertable PCP with a new anchor system can be assembled in a production column even with the fault of the seating nipple.
