Resumen
The prosthetic rehabilitation, common in the elderly, must to aim the restoration of masticatory function and oral health. It is important, then, to know the factors that will influence the adaptation of prosthesis and your masticatory efficiency, giving consequences in the quality of life of the users. On this, the aim of this study is evaluate the adaptation and the eficiency mastigatory of removable dental prosthesis in the elderly and its own associated factors. It was realized a kind of observational study and transversal that the participants were submitted for consultation to an clinical examination for the collection of personal data and to analysis the dental prostheses and a quiz for temporomandibular dysfunction symptoms. The masticatory efficiency was evaluated by means of mastication of artificial heavy food and evaluated by sieve method, and calculated by the equation of Rosin and Rammler. Of the 40 participants, all of them had superior removable prosthesis and 52.5% had lower prostheses. All superior prosthesis used by male persons were classified as unfavorable, as all inferior independent of sex. Only the technical quality unfavorable of the upper prostheses presented lower efficiency. The total dentures have a masticatory efficiency influenced negatively be unfavorable adaptation.
