Proposta de um Plano de Gerenciamento de de Resíduos Sólidos para o Laboratório de Recursos Hídricos e Saneamento Ambiental da UFRN

Abstract

This work was motivated by the growing demand for care with the environment, the lack of Solid Waste Management Plan (SWMP) presented by the laboratories of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN), and the irregularities practiced in the current waste management in laboratories, which happen precisely because of the lack of a plan to guide these activities. Considering that the generation of waste in laboratories is inevitable, measures must be taken to, if possible, promote non-generation or reduction in generation and, after generation, promote the correct destination, always seeking to minimize the risks caused by those involved in the process of handling these wastes and contaminating the environment. Therefore, the objective of this work is to present a SWMP for the Laboratory of Water Resources and Environmental Sanitation (LARHISA), in order to reduce the environmental impacts that may possibly be caused by the inadequate management of the waste generated there. Thus, the work includes the diagnosis of the current treatment, which was done through in situ visits, collection of information with lab technicians and the employee responsible for cleaning the building; the necessary adaptations so that management can comply with the requirements of current regulations; and the targets for implementing the SWMP.
