Arte e consciência crítica: o teatro no debate da questão social

Abstract

Art is a communication mechanism that has always been used by people over the centuries. The working class does not have access to certain art equipment and artistic expressions, in this context there is also a devaluation of popular art. The central objective of this work is to understand the potential of theater as an instrument for the formation of critical awareness, especially on the expressions of social inequalities present in Brazilian`s society. It is proposed to present reflections on how art can influence the process of generating consciousness. We are based on bibliographic research and realize that art has a huge potential to enter into discussions of social problems in a playful way. We consider the debate of great importance for social service because we see that several themes, which we hold during graduation, should be taken outside the walls of the university and the theater can be used as a facilitator of this dialogue, understanding the theater as a political act.
