Stemming from comments about the research project “Translation of Song Lyrics from Brazilian Popular Music and Anglo-American Popular Music: theoretical and practical aspects” (PROPESQ-UFRN), I describe the model for song lyric translation proposed by Peter Low (2017). Then, based on this author and on the experience obtained from the project’s translation workshops, I propose a protocol to translate song lyrics, exemplifying it with an annotated translation of “Luar do Sertão” (“Sertão Moonlight”), by Catulo da Paixão Cearense and João Pernambuco
