dc.description.abstractIntroduction: Early childhood is a stage in which there is the development of several skills, among them, language and, therefore, it is necessary to monitor primary care (AB) of children at this stage of life. Object: The objective of this research was to evaluate the knowledge of Community Health Agents active in the municipality of Currais Novos-RN about knowledge about language development in early childhood. Methodology: Exploratory study with qualitative and quantitative analysis. A non-probabilistic and intentional sample in which the CHA working in the Basic Health Units of the municipality of Currais Novos/RN were selected, totaling 107 professionals. The data was obtained, a research protocol was applied with 24 closed and 1 open question and a subsequent data analysis was performed through the simple descriptive statistical analysis of the frequency of the answers in the questionnaire as well as content analysis using Bardin (2011). Results: Only 20 CHA from the municipality of Currais Novos participated in the research composing a study sample, 100% of which were women. It was possible to observe that the professionals surveyed have previous knowledge about language development as well as strategies in the practice of surveillance of the development of children's language, although there is a deficit in their formator experiences in child development. Commonly, the reports pointed out by the CHA show the need for more knowledge as well as the need for moments of permanent health education on this topic. Conclusion: It was possible to conclude that there is a need for permanent education activities on language development in early childhood, evidencing the importance of speech therapist in AB.
