Resumen
This article aims to present the process of organization of public education in the region of the
municipality of Ceará-Mirim, state of Rio Grande do Norte. To reach this goal, it has been used as methodology
the bibliographic review of works by authors like Alves (2008), Cascudo (1984), Senna (1974) and Moreira
(1997). It has been considered the Organic Law of Primary Education of 1956. Yet, an iconographic study was
carried out, according to the guidelines of Stamatto (2009). Thereby, the article presents the local trajectory of
initiatives and installation of school institutions in the period between the Colony to the beginning of the First
Republic
