Resumen
The Objective Structural Clinical Evoluation (OSCE) is recognized as an
excellent competency assessment tool applied in Brazil and implemented in the
UFRN medical course since 2011. However, there are few studies, mainly in
gynecology and obstetrics that reveal the student's perception this instrument of
evaluation. This study allowed to reflect on the use of innovative methodology in
the training, recognizing limitations and positive points, in order to improve its
applicability. The general objective was to analyze the perception of UFRN
medical students about the use of the OSCE as an evaluation tool in
gynecology and obstetrics. Fifty-one students from the 10th and 11th periods
participated in the study. In the quantitative approach, a semi-structured
questionnaire was applied with OSCE issues and an open-ended question
"Relate the influence of the OSCE on learning, immediately after the evaluation,
and on the qualitative use of the Free Association of Words TALP). The data
were submitted to the EVOC software, analyzed according to Bardin in
categories and subcategories and by descriptive statistics. In the results, it was
observed that there was no statistically significant relationship between the
variables, sex, age group and period of the course, used in this study, but in the
descriptive analysis most of the students understand what the OSCE is and that
it positively influenced their practice, there is impartiality and mastery of content
by teachers, the stations are well structured and refine the knowledge. The
student perceives the feedback as important in correcting their mistakes, but the
interference of the emotional, influences negatively in the process, quoted in
87.9% of the speeches. From the lexicographic analysis carried out by the
EVOC program 2000,174 evoked words pointed out that the Social
Representations of student perception about the use of the OSCE have a
central nucleus based on the category of emotional instability and associates
the nervousness and anxiety to the OSCE as an evaluation tool. this your real
difficulty. The open question reinforced the reliability of these data. It is
concluded that in his perception, the student considers the OSCE a good
evaluation tool, a valid experience, that sediments his professional practice and
prepares for selective processes and that despite the limiting aspects, such as
emotional factors, that can interfere negatively to a good result, the use of this
evaluation instrument should be maintained in the discipline of gynecology and
obstetrics.
