This undergraduate thesis aims to analyze the teaching-learning processes of deaf children assisted at CAS Rotary Natal (State Center for Educator Training and Assistance to People with Deafness). The research is classified as a qualitative, exploratory, whose data source is questionnaires aimed at CAS educators who work with deaf children. To support the work, discussions about deafness, deaf children and the educational process of these children were analyzed (SKLIAR, 2010; NASCIMENTO, 2010; KELMAN, 1996; FERNANDES, 1999; BARROS E ALVES, 2019; DOURADO, 2020; MARTINS, TACCA AND KELMAN, 2009; BOTOMÉ AND KUBO, 2001; TACCA AND REY, 2007). The presence of special teaching units, even with the guarantee of inclusive schools, is a reality in Brazil, but the teaching-learning processes experienced within these institutions are little studied. The results found made it possible to highlight Bilingualism as the most appropriate approach when it comes to deaf education; the relevance of materials adapted to the needs of students and the importance of Sign Language. In addition to highlighting challenges faced by teachers, such as the late approach of children to Sign Language, the disarticulation between regular schools and the CAS and the lack of financial incentive. The desire to live in schools where deaf and hearing people respect and interact is something expected by all those who fight for an inclusive education.
