Disinfection is the only mandatory step in water treatment, regardless of the water source (surface or underground) and consists of the step of eliminating pathogenic microorganisms from the water, making it drinkable for the population. To achieve this goal, several techniques can be used, such as ozonation, ultraviolet radiation and chlorination, the latter being the most widely used in Brazil and worldwide. In the present work, it was envisaged to find alternatives to water disinfection for the supply system of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte, which consists of collection from underground sources, simplified treatment (disinfection with calcium hypochlorite), reservation and distribution to consumption points. For that, a qualitative analysis of the alternatives was carried out, using technical tools of quality analysis, such as the use of the GUT Matrix (Gravity, Urgency and Tendency) and Risk Matrices, which can be obtained through management systems integrated, and were used to compare the multiple disinfection alternatives for the studied system. Additionally, researchers' help, scientific studies, technical bibliography, and practical and empirical experience were used to survey these alternatives and base their final considerations. The results obtained in this way showed that surveys carried out throughout this work allow us to conclude that the alteration of the current water disinfection system adopted by the UFRN Central Campus by the chlorination system by Stepper Metering Pumps or In Loco Generator (Brine), they are able to meet the population demand of the campus and have lower costs in terms of operation and maintenance, being interesting alternatives to disinfecting the campus water.
