Resumen
Recognizing the relevant role of the CAPES Journal Portal for scientific advancement in Brazil, this research aims to evaluate the use of the CAPES Journal Portal in research made on behalf of master´s and PhD students that have graduated the area of Business Management Post Graduation Program (PPGA) at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN) in Natal-Brazil. The theoretical framework focused on issues related to scholarly communication and information user studies. The research is of descriptive nature with content analysis and quantitative and qualitative approach. Although the design of the study contemplated the sense-making approach with the trinomial (situation-gap-use) for data collection, data analysis was not qualitative, as is typical pattern of this approach. The research considered 90 graduates who pursued their master´s and doctoral degrees in Business Management in the Post Graduation Program at UFRN. The study considered those who had concluded their dissertation and thesis in in the period of 2010 to 2013. Results show that the great majority of the graduates used the Portal during their post-graduation studies as well as other types of electronic information fonts to fulfill their information needs. The Portal was used regularly at least two times a month. It was seen that the mission of this Portal is important once it is considered a useful instrument for Brazilian scholarly communication. The work also points out some aspects that need to be improve so that the use of this research tool is more intense and effective.
