Resumen
Introduction: Language is important for sucking, swallowing, chewing and speaking. Ankyloglossia is a developmental anomaly characterized by a short lingual brake that causes limitations in the functioning of the tongue. The tongue test is the test to diagnose and prevent changes in tongue movements. The treatment of choice for infants is the frenotomy. The earlier you diagnose the better the prognosis and treatment. Objectives: To present the clinical case of ankyloglossia with indication of frenotomy in the prevention and treatment of language limitations and functions in a newborn infant attended by the "Test of the Linguine" project. Methods: the information was obtained through a review of the medical record, interview with the person in charge of the patient, photographic record of the tongue test, of the frenotomy, follow-up and literature review. Results: The linguine test diagnosed and indicated the early treatment of the limitations of tongue movements caused by ankyloglossia that compromised the functions performed by the tongue (sucking, swallowing, chewing and speaking). In addition, the knowledge acquired in this research reached all professionals (dentists and speech therapists) who work in basic care, contributing to the empowerment of these professionals and consequently the resolution of cases, optimization of the service and improvement of the quality of life of these patients. Conclusion: The tongue test allowed in this case to diagnose anomalies of its insertion and to delineate preventive measures for the intercurrences during the period of breastfeeding. Lingual brachial surgery returned the functions of the tongue to the stomatognathic system and the patient's well-being.
