Resumen
Gestational diabetes mellitus is classified as a change in glucose, diagnosed during the gestational period, which is responsible for variable hyperglycemia, which may or may not persist after birth. Pre-gestational overweight/obesity and excessive weight gain during pregnancy may have direct implications on gestational risk and maternal outcomes. Therefore, it is necessary during the prenatal follow-up to perform the anthropometric evaluation to guide the weight gain during pregnancy to ensure the health of the mother and the baby. This study aimed to evaluate anthropometrically parturients with gestational diabetes mellitus. The research was case-control type and a sample composed of volunteer women attended for delivery at a public maternity hospital in Natal/RN, in the period from August 2015 to August 2016. The volunteers were separated into a control group (n = 26) and a group with gestational diabetes mellitus (n = 25). The pre-gestational anthropometric profile was evaluated by the body mass index according to the IOM (2009), and the gestational anthropometric profile, based on the proposal of Atalah et al. (1997). The weight gain was obtained by the difference of the initial and final gestational weight with the annotation on the prenatal card. The t-Student's test was used and were considered significant when p <0.05. The anthropometric profile in the period before gestation presented a significant difference between the groups, being the control group diagnosed with eutrophy and the group with diabetes presenting obesity (p = 0.0005). The analysis of the gestational anthropometric evaluation also showed a significant difference between the groups, the control group presented a diagnosis of overweight and the group with diabetes was diagnosed with obesity (p <0.0001). An evaluation of weight gain showed no significant difference between the groups (p = 0.3807). The anthropometric profile at the beginning and at the end of gestation indicated differences between the groups, but there was no difference in weight gain. 2018-05-16
