Resumen
The aim of this paper is to discuss the social representations of ‘health in sexual relations’ of women
attended in the public health system (SUS). A total of 150 women were tested using thefree word
recall test, with ‘health in sexual relations’ as stimulus. Women were also questioned about the origin
of available information on the subject. The results were obtained using content analysis, EVOC
software and calculation of odds ratio by logistic regression (p<0.05). We identified three
representational dimensions: prevention, partner relationship and quality of life. The central nucleus of
the social representation was formed by the elements prevention and condoms. The odds ratios
suggest that source of elements for representations were TV, the health unit and dialogues with family
members and partners. Representations are composed of concepts related to prevention, good partner
relationship and overall well-being. These results show the need to widen aspects considered relevant
by SUS in relation to female sexual health.
