Resumen
Syphilis is a sexually transmitted disease, which despite being simple to manage clinically, over
the past few years, several countries have reported an expressive increase in new cases,
characterizing a new epidemic surger worldwide, especially in developing countries. In Brazil,
the number of new cases of syphilis has increased in the general population, and particularly
serious among pregnant women and newborns. In this sense, the literature review pointed to a
possible difficulty in the analysis of epidemiological data due to the fragmentation of
information in the Health Surveillance databases, which can make it difficult to monitor
epidemiological diseases, such as Syphilis, in the country. Given this scenario, the objective of
this research was to develop a dedicated system of embedded hardware and software, called
SVSBOX, with the ability to integrate the various databases of Health Information Systems,
optimizing information management and contributing to a reduction of costs in public health
services. To this end, a literature review was initially carried out that pointed out a difficulty in
the analysis of epidemiological data due to a possible fragmentation of information in the Health
Surveillance databases, which can make it difficult to monitor epidemiological worsens, such
as Syphilis in the country. Then, a diagnosis was carried out in a sample of the situation rooms
indicated by the Secretariat of Health Surveillance - SVS as priorities for coping with syphilis,
in order to assess the infrastructure, facilities and equipment available for analysis of
epidemiological data in the country. From this diagnosis, the technological proposal to guide
the development of SVSBOX was defined. Regarding the results, the diagnosis made showed
significant differences in terms of infrastructure, facilities and equipment available for the
situation rooms in the different cities investigated, indicating the need to develop a
technological solution compatible with the diversity of the situation rooms evaluated. Thus
came the proposal for a technological solution, the SVSBOX, a dedicated system programmed
to exclusively meet the needs of health surveillance situation rooms, thus avoiding the deviation
of functionality of the equipment. About to the development of the tool, the stages of
requirements gathering, architecture definition, material specification and software registration
were initially carried out. The next steps include: making the prototype, registering a patent and
evaluating the product. Although SVSBOX is still in the development stage, this research
confirmed the hypothesis that the development of a technological solution to integrate all
databases of the Health Information System - SIS can contribute to the optimization of
information management within the scope of health surveillance in Brazil.
