During the experience of a multidisciplinary resident in the coordination of epidemiological surveillance and in the sector of endemics of a town in the countryside of Rio Grande do Norte it was observed that there was under-reporting of diseases and mandatory notifiable disease. Thus, an intervention was proposed through permanent education activities to raise awareness for the importance of reporting. The objective of this study is to report an experience about this intervention that was carried out through training on the importance of mandatory notification of diseases and illnesses. The objective of this study is to make an experience report about this intervention that was carried out through a training program about the importance of mandatory notification with the 17 teams of the Family Health Strategy. The training workshops were held in the basic health units of the town, divided in two stages, one theoretical and one hands-on. The training workshops were generally very powerful for the exchange of knowledge between residents and staff of the basic health units. Permanent Health Education proved to be a relevant tool for the qualification and improvement of the work process among the health professionals involved. Therefore, it can be concluded that the EMCM/UFRN Multidisciplinary Residency in Basic Care has a fundamental role in strengthening epidemiological surveillance in basic care and contributes to improving the quality of health services.Durante a vivência de uma Residente Multiprofissional na coordenação da vigilância epidemiológica e no setor de endemias de um município do interior do Rio grande do Norte observou-se que existia subnotificação de doenças e agravos de notificação compulsória. Assim, foi proposta uma intervenção por meio de atividades de Educação permanente para sensibilizar os profissionais quanto à importância de notificar. O objetivo desse estudo é fazer um relato de experiência sobre essa intervenção que foi realizada por meio de capacitações sobre a importância da notificação compulsória com as 17 equipes da Estratégia de Saúde da Família (ESF) do município. As oficinas de capacitação foram realizadas presencialmente nas UBSs do município, divididas em dois momentos, um teórico e um prático. As oficinas de capacitação foram, de maneira geral, muito potentes para a troca de conhecimentos entre residentes e servidores das UBSs. A Educação Permanente em Saúde (EPS) se mostrou como uma ferramenta relevante para a qualificação e aperfeiçoamento do processo de trabalho dos profissionais de saúde envolvidos. Logo, pode-se concluir que a Residência Multiprofissional em Atenção Básica da EMCM/UFRN tem um papel fundamental no fortalecimento da vigilância epidemiológica na atenção básica e contribui para melhoria da qualidade dos serviços de saúde.
