Currently, many studies related to the effects of water bodies contamination by emerging pollutants are being developed. Mainly due to lack of information for the detection and characterization techniques of these pollutants, conventional treatment techniques are not efficient, requiring additional steps to the treatment. Advanced oxidation processes are treatment techniques in which radicals are produced in order to react and to degrade the pollutant. This work studies the oxidation process of the emerging pollutant 17α-ethinylestradiol (EE2) using UV activated persulfate. Experiments were carried out in a photochemical reactor using two 40 W fluorescent black light. Results indicate more than 90% of EE2 degradation using 20 g / L of oxidant at pH 4 in 20 min of reaction.
