Resumen
This dissertation focuses on the analysis of the instrumentality of Social Work and its
practical-social dimensions, woven and expressed in the particularity of the
professional practice of social workers in the field of Education. Taking as a locus of
empirical research the Instituto Federal de Educação, Ciência e Tecnologia do Rio
Grande do Norte (IFRN), the study aims to analyze how the instrumentality of Social
Work is particularized in the professional practice of social workers in this institution.
From the dialectical critical method, through processes of successive approximations
to reality, we have analyzed in the context of contemporary capitalist society,
especially in the current situation which includes the Brazilian Vocational Education,
if such instrumentality brings answers to bourgeois society project or brings
mediation, buoyed by the critical-dialectical rationality. In order to subsidize the
theoretical and methodological basis of research, analyzes were based on review of
the literature and field research, which involved a survey and analysis of institutional
documents, as well as quantitative and qualitative interviews. The information
systematized and analyzed revealed the specificities of the category instrumentality
inserted in the work processes of social workers in the field of Education.
