dc.descriptionBorn in 1974 during the Brazilian military regime, the Piracicaba Salon of Humour was created by the initiative of local cartoonists and representatives of the São Paulo municipality, on the margin of the great south-eastern Brazilian cultural axis “Rio de Janeiro–São Paulo”. Entirely dedicated to the creation, promotion and dissemination of graphic humour, the event, largely rooted in the protest against authoritarianism, has met several challenges over the years, among them the valorisation of the national graphic production. Encouragedby the municipality, over the years the event has brought together cartoonists, comic strip artists, publishers, and other professionals in the context of competitions, exhibitions, debates, round tables and informal chats, with the aim of reflecting on the outlines of a profession and an artistic field which are very rich and creative but faced with major difficulties. The oscillations of the Salon, especially in the early years, between internationalization and valorisation of the national graphic heritage, appear symptomatic of the fundamental stakes of the Brazilian comic strip during the 1970s. en-US
dc.descriptionNascido em 1974 durante o regime militar brasileiro, o Salão de Humor de Piracicaba foi criado pela iniciativa de cartunistas locais e representantes da municipalidade paulista, na margem do grande eixo cultural do sudeste brasileiro “Rio de Janeiro–São Paulo”. Inteiramente dedicado à criação, à promoção e à divulgação do humor gráfico, o evento, em grande parte enraizado no protesto contra o autoritarismo, respondeu a vários desafios ao longo dos anos, dentro deles a valorização da produção gráfica nacional. Incentivado pela municipalidade, o evento reuniu, ao largo dos anos, desenhistas, quadrinistas,editores e outros profissionais no âmbito de concursos, exposições, debates, mesas redondas e bate-papos informais, com o objetivo de refletir sobre os contornos de uma profissão e de um campo artístico muito ricos e criativos, mas que enfrentavam dificuldades importantes. As oscilações do Salão, principalmente nos primeiros anos, entre internacionalização e valorização do patrimônio gráfico nacional, aparecem sintomáticas das apostas fundamentais das histórias em quadrinhos brasileiras durante os anos 1970.pt-BR
