dc.descriptionFive cases of osteoma are available in the files of the Laboratory of Oral Pathology of the FO/UFRGS. They were studied in order to establish the main caracteristics for its d iagnosis. We settle that the osteoma is a slow growing tumor that is found mainly in the lower jaw. The focal assimetry is the main reason for it diagnosis. Based upon the radiographic findings the tumor can be observed when it is in a subperiosteal position, if composed by compact bone. Histologically the tumor is composed by canceious or compact bone with a morphology that resembles normal bone. The correct histological diagnosis only can be taken with a association of the clinic and radiographic features.en-US
dc.descriptionForam revisados 05 casos arquivados no laboratório de Patologia Bucal da FO/UFRGS, com objetivo de estabelecer as principais características para o diagnóstico do osteoma. Se estabeleceu que o osteoma é um tumor de crescimento lento com preferencia pela mandíbula, e que o aumento de volume na região é a causa principal da consulta. Do ponto de vista radiográfico o tumor pode ser observado quando em posição central (endostal) somente se o osteoma for do tipo compacto. Histologicamente o tumor é composto por tecido ósseo compacto ou esponjoso, com características morfológicas semelhantes ao tecido ósseo normal. O diagnóstico histológico correto só pode ser obtido quando da associação com os achados clínicos e radiográfico.pt-BR
