This work is dedicated to investigate the effects of grounding switches when they are applied in one of the circuits of a double-circuit transmission line that shares the same right-of-way with anothertransmission line. In this condition, voltages and currents of high amplitudes can be induced in the non-energized circuit due to the electric and magnetic coupling between the lines. The amplitude of the induced voltages and currents is determined in this work by means of computer simulations with the Alternative Transients Program (ATP), using its graphical interface ATPDraw. In the simulations, several situations of practical interest are investigated, such as the withstand of thegrounding switch to induced currents, to induced voltages and to transient recovery voltages associated with the switch opening. The effects of line transposition, grounding resistance, and the effect of different transmission line models are also investigated
