The present work aims to investigate the conceptual approaches of cultural fetishism proposed by Theodor Adorno, starting from its theoretical origins, represented by the fetishism in love described by Freud and that of the commodity by Marx. Then, we analyze the historicalconceptual foundations in the Dialectic of Enlightenment, in order to substantiate the argument that man is becoming a mere consumer, animated by the devices engendered by the monopolistic capitalism. Finally, we examine Adorno’s concept of fetish-character in music, a cultural element that we privilege in our work, and its subjective correlate, the regression of listening, intending to show the rationality of fetishism and to make a diagnosis of its resonances in the individual, which results in the restriction of his freedom.
