This study offers an analysis of the images in the field of communication. The concepts of dialectical images and montage in Walter Benjamin will be covered. It is argued that the dialectical images in Benjamin goes beyond his notion of aura, providing a broader understanding about its semiotic functions. In other words, Benjamin provides conceptual references to enhance the studies about the way images represent objects ofthe contemporary world regarding certain aspects as memory and history. Our object of analysis is the Jean-Luc Godard and Anne-Marie Miéville’s film called The Old Place (1998). The connections between the thought of Benjamin and the work of Godard are supported, mainly,by Georges Didi-Huberman.
