The sports modalities voleyball and basketball are similar in the sports characteristics, such as jumps and landings, which are sports gesture frequently performed. Both of the modalities present high risk of skeletal muscles’ injuries because of the characteristics of the movement performed associated with high sports demand. Preventives works should be the physioterapist’s focus aiming to reduce the amount of injuires, their seriousness or athlete’s withdrawal time. Therefore, epidemiological studies should be made considering the specifications of the modalities, to better characterize the most common injuries correlated with the moment of the injury to contribute to the plans of these preventive works. This study aimed to review studies that investigated the injuries’ profile in volleyball and basketball young athletes. The search of scientific articles in English, Portuguese and Spanish happened between January and June of 2019, in the following database: Medline, LILACS, SciELO. Studies that used a sample of young athletes (bellow 21 years old), published in the last 15 years and involving volleyball and basketball were considered in this review. The search identified 11709 articles and 10 were selected to review. The majority of the studies were outlined as descriptive epidemiological or longitudinal. The articles showed the highest number of injuries in the lower limb in both modalities; ankle and knees were the most affected anatomic regions both in men and women. More epidemiological studies should be developed to contribute to the preventive work planning that is going to be developed by the physiotherapist.
