Plantar fasciitis (PF) is a musculoskeletal disorder, characterized by pain in the sole and heel region, especially in the morning, or after long periods of activity involving weight loss. It is one of the most common causes of pain in the foot region, affecting 25% of the athletes and 10% of the sedentary population. Its etiology is nonspecific caused by the interaction between intrinsic and extrinsic factors such as: body overweight (BMI); Reduction of the range of motion (WMD) of ankle dorsiflexion; Excessive pronation of the foot; Use of inappropriate footwear; Training overload, among others. Conservative treatment for PF usually has good results, although surgical intervention may occur in some cases. A conservative approach to the outcome of fasciitis includes: stretching, muscle strengthening, joint mobilization, use of night splints and insoles for movement control. The objective of this review was to find consistent evidence to justify the use of insoles in professional and amateur racing practitioners in the treatment of PF.
