dc.description.abstractThis work has the purpose of analyzing the principle of the social function of urban property, under the Magna Carta, under the precepts of the City Statute and under the provisions of the legislation of the Municipality of Sete Lagoas/MG, public domain of this municipality. Through the case study of the Municipality of Sete Lagoas, researches were carried out with descriptive qualitative approaches, related to the social function of urban property, to demonstrate that it is necessary for the municipality to act on its lots of public domain land that are without social benefit. In this context, in view of the results obtained with the documentary research carried out and with the data collection in the database system of the Municipality of Sete Lagoas, it was verified that this municipality has the public domain of a great amount of lots of land that are without the proper use and occupation of the soil. In this way, it is demonstrated some needs of the municipality that justify the disposal of their lots of land and described some advantages and suggestions for the municipality, in the disposal of some of their lots of public domain land. In this regard, as an example, it has been demonstrated that there is scope for increasing tax collection, investments for new real estate assets, promoting housing programs for low-income families, the possibility of reducing expenses with rental of real estate, and especially achievement of the social function of the urban property of the municipality.
