The aim of this study was to analyze the journalistic discourse about housemaid`s work. The focus on housemaids was due to several reasons, among them the fact that these workers constitute a significant number in our population and are related to important socio-historical issues in Brazil. Academically, we observe the need for contributions of linguistics at the relationship between language and work. To analyse the corpus of this research, we used the theory and methodology of J. L. Fiorin (1988, 1991, 1993), J L. Fiorin and F. P. Savioli (1996), D. Maingueneau (1984/2005), A. A. M. Faria (1999, 2000, 2001a, 2001b, 2002, 2005), among others, the language understanding as discourse, and the conceptual apparatus of sociodiscursive interactionism as well (BRONCKART, 1999, 2008). This theoretical articulation has instrumentally contributed to journalistic discourses analysis, which enabled us to characterize linguistic and socio-historically a portion of the complex discursive relations. The selection of the corpus has happened in three stages: before the adoption of Proposed Constitutional Amendment "of housemaid" (2008-2012), during the approval and enactment (2012-2013) and after its approval and enactment (2013). Searching analyse the implicit or explicit contained in journalistic discourse, characterizing elements of the socioeconomic situation of this professional workers category, and of the sociocultural context in which they were. The texts provided us with a significant material in which we also identify evaluations or interpretations given by journalistic discourse to housemaids in relation to their work, as well as stereotypes, beliefs and values assigned to employers by the journalistic discourse.
